"….Night is coming, when no one can work” John 9:4

Night and day form a unit of contraries as one chases the other. While daytime is the favorite period for many to carry out their activities, night in contrast is seen and perceived as the ideal moment to rest from one’s labor and gain energy.

In John 9: 4, as Jesus was well aware of the mission that led to his coming to this world, he stated that “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work”.

It stems from that statement of the Master that our time is not unlimited. We are wrong to think we have enough time. The truth is that every piece of work is to be carried out within a time slot which, if not managed properly, could negatively affect other spheres of our life. Time is resource as are people and money and thus its good management is a key value to be developed both for our personal work and for God’s activities.

The second piece of truth encapsulated in the statement is that Jesus knew he was in mission. Being in mission is a) being called to spend a short time within a specific environment where one is sent; b) getting a precise list of things to be delivered within defined time; c) always being ready to go back and thus refraining from overloading oneself with useless baggage; d) being ready to account to the Master for what one has done and therefore be congratulated or rebuked as the case may be, etc.

We therefore need to understand that: a) we are on earth just for a little while; b) we are entrusted with something specific to accomplish. Let’s discover that mission and deliver it diligently minding quality; c) God may call us back at any time; d) we shall account for what we have done (Rom.14:12); e) our instructions originate from our Father and they are consigned in the Bible. As citizens of Heaven, earth is just a transit space for us (1 Chronicles 29:15).

Oftentimes, we think we have time. Going forward let’s understand that we don’t for, if Jesus were to come back at midnight, midnight is soon!

Let’s stay awake and behave truly as people in mission. We would thus give the deserved value to what the Master expects from us for his glory. Have a blessed week!
